Is Acupuncture safe?

Acupuncture is very safe when practiced by a properly educated and licensed practitioner. In the United States, licensed acupuncturists have completed a four year graduate level program with over 3,000 hours of training and have been certified by four independent board examinations. Acupuncture needles are extremely thin, single use (disposable), and are an FDA approved medical device ensuring there is no risk of disease transmission.

Will it hurt?

Most people find acupuncture to be extremely relaxing and comfortable.  The needles used to perform acupuncture are 20 times smaller than the hypodermic syringes used by your doctor and create little to no sensation upon insertion.

The appointment will begin with an initial health consultation where we will discuss your overall state of health, your goals for treatment, and any questions you may have about acupuncture.  The acupuncturist will then look at your tongue and feel your pulse for more information about your health.  Once we have a clear understanding of your body, we will create a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and follow this up with a full acupuncture treatment.

What should I expect during my first treatment?

The treatment frequency and total number will depend on the severity, nature, and duration of the problem.   Most patients show significant improvement in 2-10 treatments.
